For many people, there`s no better feeling in the morning than having a cup of coffee right after getting from the bed. The warm mug, the delicious smell and taste, it gives you the energy you need to start the day… But consuming coffee on an empty stomach is actually a very bad idea. Here are some of the negative effects this habit has on your health:

  • Loss of appetite:

If you drink a cup of coffee right after getting from the bed, you won`t feel the need to eat because your stomach will fell full for some time. After a while, your organism will get used to this and it won`t feel the need for breakfast. This may seem great in the beginning because you`ll start losing weight, but have in mind that breakfast is very important because it gives you the nutrients and the energy your body needs to be able to function during the day.

  • Stomach acids:

In the morning, when your stomach is empty, the acids which help food digestion don`t have any work. When you drink coffee on an empty stomach, you add more acids so the stomach becomes acidic which, as we all know, is the perfect environment for cancer development and growth.

  • Dehydration:

Drinking coffee on an empty stomach causes dehydration, so it`s better to start the day with at least a glass of water. Most Americans drink more than one cup in the morning, which makes things even worse.

  • Anxiety:

Consuming coffee on an empty stomach lowers the ability of the brain to produce serotonin, the hormone of calm and happiness. If this is your routine every morning, it may soon lead to depression and anxiety. For the things to be worse, a cup of coffee in an empty stomach boosts the production of cortisol and adrenalin, causing even more anxiety and leaving you weak and nervous during the rest of the day.
